Image-as-Image

The project Image-As-Image takes as reference a series of documentary pictures which appeared on media such as newspapers, magazines and Internet. Ad Reinhardt in his studio in 1962, Marcel Duchamp's studio in Paris during 1927, Kazimir Malevich's funeral in 1935 or Mark Rothko's studio in New York, which works today as a japanese tea house.

By using a digital modelling process I rebuild these photographs and sets up new images, I am seeking to reveal the "real image" behind these historical archives. This project is an exercise of memory reconstruction, I believe History is a device to create mental structures, and maybe History is just a certain way to stage something that never happened.

The artists selected for the project have a special relevance in my practice, from Malevich's ideas on abstract painting written in his Suprematism Manifesto, Duchamp's way to change the meaning of the regular objects, to the mystical sense in the Rothko's paintings. In the same way the project's name is related with Reinhardt's texts Art-As-Art.
